    Sybarate Isle

I was rereading UK1 and noticed the location hex of Sybarate Isle as being more off the middle southern coast of Fairwind Isle than the eastern southern coast as shown on the LGG and DNG maps. Then, reading the description of the isle it gives it as being 1 mile off the coast of Fairwind, and its area as 20 sq. miles. I had always assumed the island size on the LGG map was based on UK1, and it was regarded as something that was added to the Darlene Map, but that island is more like 3500 sq miles, which is about the size of Puerto Rico. To give a good comparison look at Puerto Rico on a map. The island between Puerto Rico and Hispanola, Isla de Mona is 22 sq miles, which is closer to the size of Sybarate as given in UK1. That would explain why it's not seen on the Darlene Map.

I saw a thread where Eric Anondson mentioned this back in 2003 or so, but there wasn't any discussion on it. Does anyone have any thoughts on it currently? Personally, I'd be inclined to go with the UK1 area for my campaign, although it would mean altering Anna's beautiful map. Sad

-Personally, I don't have any of the Sybarite Isle modules yet, but your argument seems reasonable. Go to Anna's atlas thread with your findings and let her know. She seems to be more than happy to modify the map if it's more "accurate" (accuracy is beautiful!). She often says it's a work in progress.

The LGG took pretty big liberties resculpting Flanaess geography. Sybarate Isle appears nearly the same size as Flotsam isle. It contradicts the source module, it contradicts the Darlene maps, and there's no good reason for it. It's best to take the post-Darlene maps with a grain of salt.

Agreed. The LGG text does imply some change in status, since UK1 definitely had the governor or Sybarate as a subordinate of the Commodore of Fairwind Isle, and the LGG seems to imply a more equal status. I wonder if the size given in UK1 was overlooked when the LGG was written? There is one error in UK1, the hex location is given as O4, 14, when it should have been O4, 124.
