    My stab at it

    Hi all,

The temple was originally sacked by Robilar & Co. circa 575 CY. There is no reason to assume the temple has to have been sacked a second time yet, unless you plan on running Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil (or make up your own version of it). Unless the Return module says differently, I would say the temple would be found out and ransacked again by 585 CY, or by then the monsters will have weeded each other out, or simply left because the temple's supporters ran out of resources to constantly replenish the temple's food and water supplies.

The year based on the module introductory information is 579 cy.

The recommended year of 579 CY is a great year to start a campaign in, as so much Flanaess-wide carnage is soon to begin in just a few years time.

    Hmm...

    Hi all,

It's been awhile since I read my copy. Does it refer to 579 specifically as when Robilar & Co. sacked the temple? That seems like fudged numbering to me. Weren't we to assume that the events of the original Greyhawk campaign took place before 576, the "starting" date for the folio/boxed set?

The module doesn't give a year, but reading the introductory material places it 10 years after Emridy Meadows.
I've never heard a set date for Robilar's adventure.

The LGG gives a date of 579 for "Adventurers putting down an attempted resurgence of the Temple...", probably based on the module giving a start date of 10 years after the Battle of Emridy Meadow. So yeah on the fudged numbering.
In "Tales from the Green Dragon Inn" viewable here at the Pied Piper site, RJK places Robilar's expedition to the Temple in 575.

    Phew!

    Hi all,

Thanks, Other Scott. I didn't think I had pulled that number out of my butt, but I could not recall where I would have read that. Since I used to frequent the PPP boards much more, it surely was there.

I am indded planning to run RTTOEE. I would like the PC children to be the children of the Heroes that sacked the Temple.

Cool! I am currently doing the exact same thing and we are only a few sessions in. My friends and I played the original in high school and we're doing RTTOEE as a next generation thing with the PC's as kids (or relatives) of the heroes from the first adventure.
When I was helping my Mom to clean out her house I found all the old maps and notes the players had made and used them to make handouts for the players that they had inhereted.
