Save yourself 1,000 words - IMAGE HEAVY

Haven't seen a topic like this in the forums yet (point me to it if I'm wrong, though) so—

I'd like to see photographs of nature and architecture that have an impact on forum members. Specifically, those that make them think of Greyhawk.

    Where would you place it?

What would you do with it, once placed?

Is it just the overall atmosphere that brings to mind WoG or something specific?

Embed the images, if possible, and please give a link to credit the source (see my sig-line).

To provide an example, I'll begin:

    From:
    http://www.redbubble.com/people/wildimagenation/works/6008925-spa-pool-hammersley-gorge-karijini-national-park

I'd place it somewhere in the southern Abbor-Alz, close to the Bright Desert.

Not 100% sure what I'd do with it, but I'm thinking there's a long forgotten Efreet Bottle at the bottom of the pool!

It's the clean but stark contrast of the image that makes me think of Greyhawk.

Tricky topic, but I'll give it a try. The first thing I think of in my immediate area when it comes to fantastical settings is the bluffs along the Mississippi River near where I live. These cliffs are imposing but not impossible for adventurous types to climb, there is caves and even legends of monsters near!

    http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/beyondthepa1e/IMG_1667.jpg

I'd be hard pressed to locate these bluffs in Oerth, maybe along the Selintan toward Grossetgrottel or perhaps along the Javan River in Keoland.

Here in northern Ind. we have a few things that's "grayhawk" like. Something Erol Otus would draw.

    Thanks, guys!

    Some great images in there.

Mortellan, I'm going to have to use the idea of cliff-face painting, at some point soon in a session.

BaronZemo, I see exactly what you mean about Erol Otus when it comes to some of the flora images.

I can certainly see why you say that.

I started this thread because I believe seeing the natural beauty of an unspoiled land would be reason enough for me to adventure.

I'd place that in Perrenland, in the Mounds of Dawn or in the foothills south of Krestible. Alternatively, the Sepia Uplands would allow this castle to act as a safe base for the PCs since I locate Castle Ravenloft within those hills. Smile

I don't see a place called "Scotland" on my Darlene map, Cebrion. Razz

But, yes, it's better there, in a way, since I could conceivably visit it. Happy

Sir Xaris, great choice to tie it in with Ravenloft! Well played. Perhaps it's the home of the von Zarovich family rivals? I can't recall the name off the top of my head.

Tarelton, I think Sterich is a solid call. Very fitting and I haven't used that area of WoG often, myself, so it gives a reason for me to do so.

    - It looks too "cold" for Geoff, even if in the foothills. The terrain and climate would be good for Perrenland, but the construction looks wrong. It sort of has a pele construction. Maybe Ratik.

Instead of an adventure destination, I'd make it the base of operations.

Too cold for Geoff on a regular basis, but not for a stormy day in the rainy season. Wink

However, I agree that Ratik would also be a very good choice.

I think it would be very fun for a party of adventurers to have to race across that long bridge under fire from giant-hurled rocks or defending arrows/bolts. Smile

Quitor Pukara (Fortress) in Chile...maybe an old ruin in the Abbor-Alz near the Brigh Desert?

Yungas (Mountain Jungles) in Bolivia...or the misty steps of the Hellfurnaces in the Amedio Jungle, were the Dakon dwell?

-You have to crop out the cactus. It makes me think Olmec, which makes it a lot harder to place.
