Forum search? Ah! There it is!

Is there a way to search forum posts that I'm missing? When I use the search button in the upper right-hand corner it only searches the articles on the website.

The two search function links haven't been updated yet, and are as follows:

    Site Search Function: http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=Search

    Forum Search Function: http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=Forums&file=search

EDIT: the Site Search Function link has been updated.

Thank you for providing this link. When I use link to Search the Forum on forum index page, I go to page that says only "No Input File Specified":

    http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=Forums&file=search

Is "cf" directory now replaced by "cf"?

Yes. Not all of the links have been updated, so if you get a "No Input File Specified" message for any link, just change the "cfhtml" bit within the link to "cf", and it should take you where you want to go. I'll pass this along to the overall site admin.

It would be nice to update the Search Forums link on the main forums page, if possible, Gary!

And let's get a Lucene or Elasticsearch backend or something!

And get back to work in the acid mines! Laughing

Kidding of course, but there remains hope for a better search backend in the future. It's the sort of thing that gets discussed in greytalk lately.

Is it just me or is Forum Search broken?

I get the following when trying to do a forum search from the link provided above:

    >Could not delete old search id sessions

    >DEBUG MODE

    >SQL Error : 1153 Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes

When trying the link in the upper left corner of "Forums" I get the "The Sages are at Work" error page.

Read this thread fully, in particular my post about four posts prior to yours where I provide the correct links (one of which still needs to be updated) for both search engines.

If you get this message again...

    >Could not delete old search id sessions

    >DEBUG MODE

    >SQL Error : 1153 Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes

..then also post the term you were searching for. I just searched for the common term "Greyhawk" and got 78 pages of hits on the forum, and 101 hits on the site's Downloads/Web Links/Encyclopedia sections. Seeing as this has got the the most common term present on the site, any other term should net results.

As a general note, people will receive an error message when using any link that contains the highlighted portion here: "http://www.canonfire.com/cfhtml/...". To get to where such a link goes, just go to your address window and delete the "html" portion of the link so it reads "http://www.canonfire.com/cf/...." and it should take you where you want to go.
