In the Eye of the Panther

Baron Urik von Kharkov stood silently on a small balcony of his Castle Pantara, his heart heavy from bloodwine and distant memories.

A big fat black bird had taken a seat on a stone pillar just a few meters far from the baron's reach and cawed, like a scoffing mockingbird up to the balcony.

"Wait, my boy, until I come down to you. Then you will not jap at me again, I promise." The baron thought, his wild heart awakening.

But when he turned the head, with a feline-like grin, the raven wasn't there anymore.

In the desperate darkness of the night, Urik van Kharkov suddenly beheld a croaking voice next to his ear: "Selena."

And then again, so soft and distant that the baron could barely hear it: "Selena."

Then, the sound of black wings, and the voice was gone.

Back remained the baron, shouting in fury and surprise, unleashing the vile beast usually so carefully locked in the bottom of his chest.

When the guards arrived, they found the panther weeping, sunken to the ground of the wooden floor, begging for the light of the sun to take him away.
