    Got the Gazetteer W00T!

Well dethalion fixed me up with a Living Greyhawk Gazetteer as i couldnt get hold of one in australia which was a damn pain. Most places i went to said that it was out of print and that they could not get it in.
So dethalion agreed to fix me up with one so i then recieved the book today in the mail and got stuck into reading it immediatly.

To tell the truth i was alittle sceptical about how good the Greyhawk setting could possibly be but its absolutely fantastic and i'm glad that i have the gazetteer. it now seems that i'll be running my first campaign in this brilliant setting.

So far i'm thinking about the gran marches area with shiboleth as the starting point. I'm starting the pc's at first level so i'll probably start with a small dungeon related quest to get thier experience up a little the i'll weave into some more complex plots with nastier villans/villanesses.

Anyway thanks to all chatters on #greytalk for your support and for answering my questions about various things to do with greyhawk.

I have a couple of other questions though:

    1. Are the greyhawk novels any good?
    2. What other greyhawk books are available that are worth buying.
    3. Does anyone know some places where i can download some greyhawk adventures.

    Anyway thanks again peoples.

    Kind Regards

glad you like it, I agree that it is a great resource. Gary, Erik, Fred, and Sean did a good job on it.

    1. Personal opinion: the recent Greyhawk novels are not worth the read. I recommend the Gord novels by Gygax, Nightwatch (by Robin Bailey), and Quag Keep (a proto-Greyhawk novel by Andre Norton). Avoid anything by Rose Estes like the plague. All of these are long out of print but used bookstores may have copies.

    2. Lots, but most are out of print. Much of the Carl Sargent stuff is pretty good.

    3. Check the WotC website, they used to have quite a bit available. PDFs of out of print stuff are available from a company whose name I can't recall - google for out of print tsr products. Also check the Greyhawk webring for stuff others have written.

    1. In my opinion, only the following Greyhawk novels are good (and these aren't even "official"). Each of these novels make up the Gord the Rogue series; they are:

    Saga of Old City
    Artifact of Evil
    Sea of Death
    Night Arrant
    City of Hawks
    Come Endless Darkness
    Dance of Demons

Now, these are all out-of-print mind you. They aren't "offical" either. In other words, what happens in these novels is not considered to have occured in the offical WotC version of Greyhawk. Nevertheless, because they are written by the original creator of Greyhawk, Gary Gygax, they are a very interesting read.

    2. Sadly none. What you own is it. I mean, there's loads of out-of-print material but people are usually asking ridiculous prices for them.

The Living Greyhawk Gazetteer is really all you need anyway. It's all I really use.

    3. Greyhawk is pretty much your "generic" D&D type of fantasy. So any generic fantasy adventure will work. Look at Wizards of the Coasts site for free short adventures or older 1E and 2E adventures from their Classics Downloads section -- these are free too.

Also, just do a search on for "Free d20 pdf adventures" and you'll come up with a fair few. Wink

On the novels front, I found Keith Strohm's Tomb of Horrors very well-written and fairly well-steeped in GHness. I just wish more of the novel actually took place in the Tomb....
