    Crown of Blackmoor

Hello all. I'm new to the forum and this is my first post

Having read Frderick Weining's great article on Blackmoor in OJ 5, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on where the Crown of Blackmoor might be. The article mentions it was made by Ranial the Gaunt, presumably lost at the Battle of Toadwash, and reclaimed later by Engren Erris, the Lich of Glendour. He was in turn defeated by Rua Morgaiste, and here the trail of the Crown grows cold. Now the Archbaron Bestmo and the True Trolls (created by Ranial the Gaunt) are searching for it.

By the way, what does the Crown do? I'm assuming its a magical item, but maybe not.

Any ideas regarding either of these questions?

I can't quite help you there but I did want to mention, in case you didn't know, that Blackmoor is making a comeback for 3E!

It's being published by Zeitgeist Games and if you go to this link you'll get to see a picture of the new campaign book cover art:

Maybe your questions will be answered in this upcoming product.

Blackmoor is, indeed, very facinating. Wink

I don't buy into other gameworlds/systems, but this Blackmoor looks appealing!

From the GH adventures hardback(not 3E mind you):

Crown of Blackmoor: This black, iron headpiece bears a large fire opal at the front. It was created by a powerful lich....

When the crown is placed on the head of a deceased evil character who had reached at least 18th level as magic user, it animates the character as a lich. A system shock is necessary, modified by -1% per 5 years after the wizards' death, or the wizard's body disentegrates to dust that can never be brought back to life again. The lich's INT score starts at 0, but increases by one point per day until supra-genius intelligence is reached. At that time the lich gains the full powers and abilities of its kind.
The character placing the crown has no control over the lich, so a reaction check is necessary...(listed modifiers)

A deceased PC who is brought back as a lich becomes an NPC under the DM's control. The lich may have been a friend or companion to the PC's but will tend to leave their company to pursue its own path.
