    Monte Cook's Earthblood

I saw this on Monte Cook's site. I thought I'd share it with everyone as it could explain Oerthblood in the GH setting:

Verrrry interesting. I for one have always believed Oerthblood is one of the things that emits the radiations upon which Drow items are produced under and even acts as a barometer of the raw magic of Oerth. Monte's Earthblood seems to follow a similar premise extending into living creatures. Cool.

Both Oerthblood and Earthblood reminds me of Covenant and the potent Earthblood that could be found at the root of the tallest peak in the Westron mountains. One sip granted the drinker a wish!

I can't quite remember how Oerthblood was described in Return of the Eight (or whether it was described at all).

Was it an unseen magical force like Monte's Earthblood or a literal blood-like liquid? If it was the latter, there's no reason you couldn't incorporate Monte's version - perhaps Tenser was somehow refining the unseen magical force and distilling it into a physical form? In this physical form, perhaps it is a potent spell component?

In Rot8, Oerthblood is described as a molten metal that can be enchanted when cooled. It's further described as toxic, not to mention extremely hot. Tenser used golems to harvest it because of those dangers.

In that 2e adventure, players who approached the Oerthblood flow in the superheated underground cavern were hit with saves v poison at a significant negative modifier per round until, one way or the other, they went away Happy

3.5e seems geared towards integrating Oerthblood as a unique element, thus giving us Oerthblood Elementals, half-Oerthblood beings, Oerthblooded individuals, an Oerthblood bloodline, and possibly an Oerthblood Adept.

I have always envisioned Oerthblood to be a tangible substance. In fact I am using it, to a lesser degree, in my current game; the whole of Turucambi reef having been constructed ages ago to filter the substance from the surrounding seas.

As for the intangible, I have something else in mind. I have always wanted to create a bard variant that was more about music and less "Jack of all Trades". My inspiration comes from the game Loom:

Envision the bard as a minstrel in touch with the Oerthsong, a "universal song" from which great magics may be drawn.
