In Oerth Journal No.1, page 9 (PDF version), the 7th High King of All Elves was named Galitholian Glitterhelm (see 2716 OC). During his reign Vecna studied elven magic but eventually marched against the Elves after returning homeland with his permission. Confusingly, a name spelled Gilthonial, which I suppose was another name for the elven king, was used after their conflicts began.

Were Galitholian & Gilthonial two different characters? If they were, who was Gilthonial? Or if they were just two names for the same character, why was the name Gilthonial used? I have not found any explanation for these and hope you can help me. Thank you.

I'm not sure how it applies to Greyhawk, but Elbereth Gilthonial was the Valar who created the stars in Tolkien's works.
