    D&D Creature Competition

Wizards of the Coast is having a competition of sorts to determine which classic D&D characters will appear in an adventure thingy. Lots of Greyhawk characters are involved (including Zagyg, Lum the Mad, Lareth the Beautiful, Acererak, Rary, Iggwilv, Baba Yaga, Graz'zt, Tharizdun, Vecna, Warduke, the Slave Lords, Demogorgon, Kyuss, Lolth, Kas, Dragotha, Doresain, Drelzna, Imix, Eclavdra, Keraptis, and Zuggtmoy). Ironically, I ended up voting against some of them because I'd kind of rather Zagyg and Tharizdun weren't statted for 4th edition. Bargle ended up winning my votes.

Rasgon, old friend, I only know some of those by name. Wink Laughing

But I completely agree with your reasoning, some of those should not be statted.

Given the problems that Tharizdun causes for the Greater Powers, he, himself, should be considered an uber-Power and such a Being should be beyond any and all statistics.

And I don't want to see some of our favorite characters statted either. Cool

Of that whole list the only GH NPCs I think that could be converted properly would be Lareth, Drelnza, and Warduke and that's where it ends. The rest qualified as epic level characters in 1e -3e. I have yet to see the 4e rules capable of converting characters properly.

One of my players once said, as a joke, 'If it has stats, we can kill it.' Happy

Wow! Someone at Wizards must read my site regularly because they took an idea from me! I've been doing the D&D themed tourney for three weeks now and had been talking about taking it to other things like wizards and demons, then tonight voila....there it is on WotC. Hmmmmm.

Gord the Rogue fought Tharizun and won, if I do so recall. Nothing in a fantasy game in untouchable. There is no "biggest fish." Of course, raising a PC to the point of eating particularly big fish should be both time consuming and difficult.

There are simply some GH characters that I wouldn't want to see killed off.

And "touchable" and "killable" are two different things. "Winning" and "killing" are also two different things. If the Gods couldn't kill Tharizdun, how could Gord? Or my characters? Confused

That concept sort of destroys the entire WoG's theological base and premise.

That being said, we each play our games as we choose. And I'm quite sure anything and anyone is killable in some of your games. And that is your decision to make and yours alone.

My comments are simply how I play and enjoy my WoG. Wink

I strongly encourage everyone to play their Wog in their own way and I sincerely hope you are doing so and enjoying your WoG! Happy

Didn't think so, though I haven't read the entire Gord series.

Still, I'm with you on this one, some personages I just don't want to see statted. Cool

I noticed some entries had matching pictures that I'd never seen before. Does anyone know where the images associated with Lum the Mad, Dragotha, Eclavdra, Doresain, Vlaakith, Orcus, Asmodeus, Ygorl, Lolth, Gith, and Kyuss come from?

And are the images of Lum the Mad, Eclavdra, Doresain, and Dragotha intended to be the actual subject, or simply stock art?

Rob, the Doresain pic is from the cover of 4e module E2: Kingdom of the Ghouls. The Orcus pic is from the cover of E3: Prince of Undeath. The Kyuss pic is from his entry in Open Grave. Those pics are meant to represent who they say they are. The pic of Lum is off the cover of the FR 1e-2e? module The Magister. Pretty sure it's not meant to be Lum.

The picture of Ygorl is from The Plane Below: Secrets of the Elemental Chaos. It's supposed to be him. I'm not certain about the others at present, apart from the ones Smillan mentions. Dragotha appeared in the 4th edition Draconomicon, the one centered around chromatic dragons, and that picture is likely from there.

Gith plays a significant role in the online Dungeon's Scales of War path, and the PCs can meet her, but I'm not sure if she's ever illustrated.
