    WG8 Fate of Istus

Could anyone here that is familier with this module tell me where this module would fit into a larger campaign.

Any help or advice or comments on the topic are very very appreciated.

    Thanks again Happy

Fate of Istus is a collection of smaller mods that have an overall theme. Istus is 'testing' the various classes of DnD in each chapter. Since classes have changed somewhat from 1E to 3E this takes some adjustment. The other thing, FoI takes PCs from 1st all the way to higher levels. Its a campaign unto itself in this regard.

I myself just finished using FoI, but I cannibalized the parts I wanted for my campaign. Certain chapters are written better than others and some are just worthless or illogical. I was quite pleased with the one set in Wintershiven. The one set in Rauzes is dated if you use current LGG timelines where Rauxes is ruined. So, you have to tweak alot IMO. If anything in the least you can use FoI for its city references and maps. Good to have.

FoI was meant to update your 1E GH to 2E and is very contrived in its attempt.

I can't recall the full details but something very bizarre happens to the Scarlet Brotherhood monks in order to erradicate the monk class.

I don't know, it's been a while since it was in my hands. I didn't own it long; I quickly traded it in in disgust.

That was when I was an amature GM, however. I'm sure if I had it now I could probably get something out of it.

I don;t know, while a couple of them are useful... I remember a lot of the city maps in Fate of Istus being pretty pathetic.

I agree wes, Rel mord in particular is shoddy. But any map is preferrable to no map when you DM on the fly sometimes.

As has been said, FoI has a specific date/campaign year, and a specific purpose: transition from 1st to 2nd edition. If you are playing "later" or are already using 2nd edition or later, the module as a module/story has little to offer.

However, if you are having adventures take place in any of the cities detailed, the work can be useful for background. I have used the stuff on Rookroost to set a small adventure, and the stuff on Verbobonc in writing a history of the Sheldomar Valley (info on crops, weather, and history).

Many people do not like this adventure: I have never played it as written. As a DM, a poor existing background is sometimes preferable to creating something from scratch.

Apparently the Verbobonc write-up in WG8 is different to the Verbobonc detailed in WGA4 Vecna Lives!

indeed, I think that the map of Rel Mord in WGR4 The Marklands, while obviosly (losely) based upon the earlier map from Fate of Istus, is much better.
