    Darlene Pekul: Facebook Fan Page

    My fellow gamers,

During the course of working on my current Dungeons & Dragons project, I have had the opportunity to become good friends with Darlene Pekul. For those of you who do not recognize her name, she is responsible for much of the artwork and calligraphy that appeared in the some of game's earliest source material. She did many of the illustrations in the first Dungeon Master's Guide and was responsible for the beautiful lettering that decorated the World of Greyhawk maps.

Darlene has asked me to act as the creator and proctor of her official Facebook fanpage, located at: http://www.facebook.com/DarleneTheArtist

I would ask you, my friends interested in the game, please join the group! Furthermore, tell your friends that enjoy it or are interested in the roots of the game about the fan page, as well. Many exciting things (such as an eBay auction featuring many early Dungeons & Dragons game materials and other nonsuch!) are on the way!

Wow. This all looks pretty cool. I see on the group page there is an auction coming up in November for her art work too.

That's a blast from the past and thoroughly welcome.

I won't join the group because I only have to see the F to break out into F's of my own but it's good fun looking at the pics.

    Mortellan,

Yes, there will be an auction! Darlene has not shared specifics with me of what will be auctioned, but from the generalities she's outlined, I expect it to be similar to Rob Kuntz' auction. That means, in my opinion, there should be many delicious rarities to be found therein!

    Ragr,

I understand your reluctance to use the aforementioned "F". In any case, I'm glad that you've popped in to see the pictures we've (and will continue to!) post on her page! Thanks for stopping by!

Me and Sir Xaris are on board. Happy

I was pleased to see some of that old artwork. I wasn't aware that Darlene did those. They are nostagic pieces for me (the unicorn, the succubus, and the mermaid), but I only knew Darlene for her WoG map.

Nice. I don't do Facebook either, but I will pop in from time to time.

    Thanks for sharing! Cool

Great looking pics. Though, I also do not subscribe to Facebook. However, I wish Darlene well as her maps have inspired me and many other Greyhawk fans for years.

I certainly wouldn't put it past her. As you all know, she possesses strange and potent powers beyond our mortal ken! Wink

Though both of you don't use Facebook, I hope you'll enjoy everything Darlene will be sending me to post to her fan page. And don't forget her auction, either! There's certain to be a few things there that may pique your interest!

Thanks for the post from "TheProphetofDarlene".

Maybe she should do a KickStarter program and rejuvinate some of her art work by providing signed copies... and get back into the fantasy art business? I'd be a backer Wink

I really appreciate Darlene's work and contribution to Greyhawk, those maps were of the first few D&D items I bought way back in the Fall of '81.

    Looking forward to the auction.

    Cheers

    BusterBudd,

Thanks for the kind words and feedback!

While I can't say a Kickstarter is in the works, I can tell you that Darlene has some very big things planned for the remainder of the year, leading up to some truly big news in 2013! Rest assured, I'll keep everybody here at Canonfire up to date on things as they're announced!

Have to say the link was interesting... really enjoyed the converse between two of the industries greatest cartographers ..... Darlene and Anna... very very cool. Gave me a feeling of completeness... Starting with the talents of one and holding tightly to that for several decades while discovering the emergent talents of a rising star.
