Continual Light effects vs. Undead, etc

    I'm back with another question.

Many undead are negatively affected by sunlight, such as the obvious example of vampires, but also spectres and wraiths. Drow elves and many subterranean denizens cannot countenance it, either.

Wondering what happens, in your opinion, if a Continual Light, which has the intensity of full daylight, is employed against any of these creatures.

I doubt it actually damages them, but wondering if an immediate Morale check is required (likely with a penalty) for them to remain in the area. Granted they make this roll, what attack, saving throw, etc. penalties would you, as DM, assign them (if any)? I'd think something like a -4 point penalty seems reasonable, so long as they remain in the area of effect of such brilliance.

I am sure that most editions of the game specifically state that a continual light spell doesn't cause damage to undead, like vampires. Spells that do cause damage, specifically state that fact in their description.

As far as penalties associated with it, the entries for both drow and orcs, for example, state that those creatures suffer a -1 penalty on their To Hit rolls when attacking into an area of continual light from a position outside its effects. I don't remember what the penalties are if they are actually within the area of continual light, but they might be blinded for a round on a failed saving throw.

Such light effects do nothing to undead unless specifically stated (which I don't think any of them do). The only undead that don't like continual light are shadows, but only because it makes them easily seen and not because it somehow harms/damages them. Unlike shadows, shadow fiends are affected to some degree by light, it worsening their armor class the brighter the light is.
