    Looking For Drow Modules

    Hey all,

I've been running G-D-Q series (using 5e rules) for my group and they have arrived at the Vault of the Drow. For Erelhei-Cinlu, I am drawing on as many sources that I can find, which includes D3 (obviously), the Drow of the Underdark hardcover, Dragon #298, and Out of the Abyss (although there isn't much in this book for my campaign). There are also some excellent threads and campaign journals at Dragonsfoot that I've sifted through for more ideas and inspiration. I also own the Menzoberranzan box set, which I don't find very useful.

Ultimately, the party will likely end up at the Fane of Lolth as per the module. Until then, they've taken to exploring the city. I have prepared a few excursions to keep them busy, and I can always reskin some published adventures to suit the drow environment, but I was wondering if there are any good drow (high level) modules out there that I haven't seen, preferably that take place in a city? Any obscure fan-made or 3rd party material anyone can suggest?

    Cheers!

To your Greyhawk list, you should definitely add Russell Bird's version of Erelhei Cinlu from Oerth Journal #14 if you've not read it yet.

A more-obscure title is Seren Ironhand by Tom Moldvay, in which drow play a strong part in this second of three modules, the only one of the trilogy published (see http://afterglow2.com/Product/Challenges.htm for a little more info).

A lot of 3PP were published about the drow during the d20 era; here are some you way want to track down (of them, I only own Seren Ironhand, can't comment on the quality of the others):

    - Green Ronin's d20 Plot & Poison
    - 3.x era "Drow War" modules from Mongoose, a trilogy: #1 The Gathering Storm, #2 The Dying of the Light, and #3 Darkest Hour, along with Sheoloth City of the Drow
    - Demon Queen's Enclave (4e from WotC)

This RPGgeek query may give you some additional ideas: https://rpggeek.com/geeksearch.php?action=search&objecttype=rpgitem&q=drow&B1=Go

DCC Saga of the Witch Queen (available for 1e) contains the Lost Passage of the Drow and a lot of GH nods. No major drow settlements, but there's a fair sized dungeon with drow living areas.

WotC's City of the Spider Queen is regarded as one of the best 3e mods and contains two major drow settlements. This is probably what you're looking for. I haven't read it yet.

D1-2 Descent into the Netherdeep contains more expansions and new material than most Hackmaster ports. Asberdies even gets his own little playground.

Q1 Skein of the Death Mother presents a more grounded conclusion to the series (free!).

FFE's Dungeon World and DW Secrets of the Enemy Capital contain some drow areas, not much and the books aren't the best, but there's other cool ideas and GH gods if you can find them cheap.

Sargent's Shadow Elves presents a completely different kind of subterranean society.

If they're just piddling around in the city, you can take almost any urban adventure or adventure seed and throw it in there with a few changes. A fun one is to take the standard 'bad guys infiltrate to overthrow good town' plotline and reverse it. Have a 'good guys infiltrate to overthrow bad town' adventure, where the PCs have to choose between their mission against Lolth and helping the infiltrators.

Check out “The Rebel Faction” by Usherwood Publishing. It’s levels 8-12 and could fit well with what your looking for.

Also check out Maldin’s Greyhawk for some great information on the underdark. “The city of Khor” might be useful.

Lastly, the “Encyclopedia Subterranica” has some cool Drow adventures in it.

Some fantastic responses, these will be very helpful.

I had not seen this before, thanks for pointing this article out! It's a wonderful read and an excellent resource. A wealth of ideas to use!

This looks interesting, always liked Moldvay's stuff. It's a little low level for what I need, but I'll definitely take a look. Thanks again, grodog.

@vestcoat: thanks for reminding me about City of the Spider Queen, I had totally forgotten about that module and I even own a copy rolleyes There's definitely stuff I can steal from it.

Yeah I have read Skein of the Death Mother and absolutely plan on using it for the campaign's finale. It's partly why I decided to run this series again.

Yes, I have a few already planned from various sources. Currently, they are in the middle of City of Skulls retrofitted for Erelhei-Cinlu. It has worked out very well so far.

@thedanered: The Rebel Faction is another source I have never seen and looks very promising. Thanks so much for the heads up!

I made extensive use of Encylopedia Subterranica throughout the party's travels through D1-2. It's an amazing resource and we had a blast with it!

    Seren Ironhand

Did the CH Moldvay modules ever establish a reference to a particular campaign setting? I'm guessing if there were Drow in them that Oerth somewhere is a good spot to place it...? Maybe the original Known World continent would make a good Gonduria.

I believe that they were in fact written for just that---the original Known World setting:

Adding to what Sir Xaris posted, there is also the Rise of the Underdark campaign:

There is also Paizo's third Pathfinder Adventure Path, Second Darkness:

Thanks for this tip, SirXaris. Aside from it being for PF, I've never seen this and it looks very useful for some of my campaign.

Weird, but I can't find any concrete info on this. There are posts all over the internet when it was officially announced back in 2012, including a very cool video, but I'm not having any luck tracking down where to get it Confused

"Dark Thane Macbeth" for 2E levels 9-10 in Dungeon 54.

Huh. Seems there is not much there for Rise of the Underdark, other than for some novels and a few bits of actual gaming material. At least Paizo's Adventure Path, Second Darkness, is still available: https://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures/adventurePath/secondDarkness

Not a module, but Dragon Magazine issue 298 was drow-themed and had a presentation of Erelhei-Cinlu and the rest of the Vault.
