[Jason Zavoda talkes about how we don't discuss much on here any more. Far be it for me to resist a challenge!
We're all familiar with signs of rulership in the Flanaess, such as the Throne of the Lion in Keoland, the Throne of the Sun in the Pale and most infamously the Malachite Throne in the old Great Kingdom. On Canonfire, I've also seen references to the Seat of Gold being the throne of Tenh, and the Platinum Diadem worn by the Szek of Onnwal.
Are these latter symbols of rulership canon? What other canon references do we have to thrones and crown jewels of the various Flanaess states?
Let me take a tangent here on my favorite topic to whinge on about, canon.
DM's were given the Greyhawk setting by Gygax lock, stock and smoking barrel. The evil witch who took TSR away from Gygax tried to take away Greyhawk from us as well. This has been the tradition of the companies and corporation that followed.
There is no canon in Greyhawk. We have a shared starting point, the folio and the '83 boxed set. These are a bare skeleton, though rich with inspiration, that we are meant to flesh out or even alter to suit our own taste as DMs.
Absent from Zavoda's list seems to be the jeweled crown, orb, and scepter of Asberdies, lich in D2, Descent Into the Depths of the Earth. His background is revealed in a fan article here on Canonfire!, I believe. I appologize for not remembering who authored it
