I can't speak for gal, but many people think of camel riding calvary (or is it camelry) when they hear the word mamaluke.... maybe the dwarves are trained camal riding butt-kickers.
Sorry for the confusion. In this campaign the term Mamluke means only specialized heavy infantry. We deliberately went away from islamic meanings, though we kept some of the terms for flavor. Dwarves are excellent heavy infantry. They are not slaves at all. I'll clarify this in the expanded non LGG version that is coming.
