Then such a hobgoblin would probably rise to the status of a general or field commander, on his own. If he married someone like a chieftain's daughter (either from his tribe or another) he could probably rise in status. This is probably the exception to the rule-hobgoblins who prove themselves in combat and marry well can rise in social status within their tribes.
