Re: Dragons and society (Score: 1) by CruelSummerLord on Thu, September 15, 2005 (User Info | Send a Message) |
Thanks a lot, Osmund-Davizid! I admit that my making dragons weaker is a jab at the dramatic power boosts they've received in 2E and especially 3E. While dragon power is still justified in 2E, I think 3E went way too far. These dragons should be able to rule whole continents, if they're that powerful!
Besides which, the idea of not all dragons being able to speak or use magic, and their weaknesses of cowardice, greed and hubris all come from certifiably canon sources, most notably the 1E Monster Manual. I took a few liberties with the hubris thing, but I really don't think dragons have the status they give themselves in their own myths and legends.
And yes, it's perhaps written a bit from a humanocentric perspective. Most of the dragons can hardly be counted on to give what would be considered a "balanced" interpretation of their own history, given the tendencies they have to puff themselves up all the time. |
