Re: Flan patriarchy vs. matriarchy (Score: 1) by Kirt on Tue, April 16, 2002 (User Info | Send a Message) | Given the extraordinary cultural diversity of the
Flan, I would expect that some groups were patriarchal, some matriarchal, and some mixed. Certainly Beory as the Oerth Mother would have been the focus of many groups. But Pelor as the Sky Father would have been the "dominant" power among some Flan. IMC the Flan who lived by settled (if shifitng) agriculture would most likely be matriarchal or mixed. The Flan of the Sheldomar valley are a good example of this, and I have modeled them after the Cherokee IMC. Flan groups who are nomadic hunters and herders would be more likely to be patriarchal, and I place the Perrenders, at least the lowland Perrenders, in this group. IMC the Perrender Flan are modeled after the Aryan/Germanic tribes that menaced the Romans.
