Hadn't considered the retirement angle, but you are absolutely correct. Wouldn't be a restful retirement, what with every up-and-coming snot wanting a piece of you, but still.
Is the lack of game mechanics an issue? I tend to write rules-lite and
hook-heavy stuff to try to maximize the usefulness to other DMs. And,
of course, to not let mere rules get in the way of a good story. ;)
