Re: An Alternative View of the Greyhawk Wars (Score: 1) by CruelSummerLord on Mon, October 28, 2002 (User Info | Send a Message) |
In my own defense, I have tried to carefully weave in canon (Ket, an empire conquering the northern Flanaess, Frolmar Ingerskatti allying with the SB, the Black Brotherhood, Rary the Traitor, Idee being conquered, anarchy in the Sea Princes, the confused situation in Sterich also applying to Geoff, Ahlissa and North Kingdom) so as not to make everyone upset.
You have the same problem with my material as I have with the published material-it could never have happened IMC. How could the giants conquer Geoff and Sterich with their leaders dead? Eclavdra never revealed herself, and Snurre, who I assumed was the figurehead in charge of the alliance, was killed, so the whole thing fell through. I admit I let some of my biases show.
I prefer the Society over Iuz, although the Society basically supplanted Iuz`s role in this version. I did not want to see Tenh destroyed, nor do I, as a DM, have any interest in dealing with the Scarlet Brotherhood. Rather, I find the idea of a racist-progressive promoter of Suel culture to be more interesting than monks dictating every last aspect of life in their conquered territories, and not allowing anyone to even step outside their doors without monk supervision.
(I also imagine that PCs could not simply come into this place from the outside world and interact with the people. Unless they`re all Suel-born humans, the monks either won`t let them into their territory, or throw them in chains if they discover any Oeridians, demihumans or Flan sneaking through their realm.)
I think that I do not, once again, need to state my opinions on From The Ashes, save that I didn`t like it.
All this aside, I have gotten positive receptions from others on this, and I wrote it out of my love for the setting and my desire to make an alternate view to the too-dark canon known.
Jared, Lord of the Cruel Summer. |
