Ah, yes, this is pre-Wars. Post-Wars, the Church would be in a state of Chaos, since most of their higher-up's would be dead or missing. I would guess that post-Wars, schisms would wrack the church as the various pretenders hoping to claim the Malachite Throne would be putting up their own puppets as the next Holy Censor or Pontiff.

About Hextor...since this is my personal heresy, no, Hextor never replaces Pholtus. Pholtus would still be considered the head of the church, but Hextor's orders would rise in importance during the years of Naelaxian rule, coming to power in Medegia and taking over the fief. By the time of the Wars, Hextor would have been second only to Pholtus in the Church, with Zilchus close behind (having fallen from the number two position he enjoyed during much of the time a Rax Overking sat on the throne). At least officially.

The reality of the matter would be quite different. With Ivid V's persecution of certain orders of the Pholtine church (like having certain Pholtine orders persecuted and destroyed for opposing him), Hextorian priests came to dominate the church's halls of power more and more, and their dogma began to replace Pholtus'. Hextor would definately be the most important and influential god in the church at this time. It's possible that in a generation or two, if Ivid V's persecutions and corruptions of the church continued, Pholtus would've finally been officially replaced with Hextor as the head of the church...

But, IMC, Pholtus would never be replaced, at least in name. Going WAAAAAY back to the Twin Cataclysms, Arnd of Tdon laid the foundations for the Oerid Pholtine churches and their pantheonic worship, and he was a priest of Pholtus. Arnd is such a heroic and important figure IMC that it would be suicide for any church to try and alter his plan too much. It would probabily spark rebellions...and, even worse, other Pholtine churches would probabily step in and start taking away worshippers and defectors and growing more powerful.
