Jon Peterson's book _Playing at the World_ is a new, comprehensive early history of the development of RPGs out of wargames through about 1978 TSR, and is well-worth checking out if you're interested in the history of the hobby.

Jon recently started a blog with two interesting posts featuring scans of these very rare publications:

- The Domeday Book #1 @ http://playingattheworld.blogspot.com/2012/08/domesday-book-1.html (DB was the newsletter of the Castles & Crusades Society)
- The Blackmoor Gazette and Rumormonger #1 @ http://playingattheworld.blogspot.com/2012/08/blackmoor-gazette-and-rumormonger-1.html (the BMG&RM was Dave Arneson's newsletter for the Blackmoor campaign)

If you're interested in the book, you can find an extensive preview available on the Amazon Kindle edition page @ http://www.amazon.com/Playing-at-the-World-ebook/dp/B008PN6K9Y/ref=tmm_kin_title_0 and the paperback version @ http://www.amazon.com/dp/0615642047/

Grodog,

Thanks for the links. I read the blog and read an excerpt from amazon. It seems like an interesting book. Might have to pick this one up.

Later

De nada guys: I'm still reading the Amazon preview, but what I've read thus far is pretty good stuff!
