There is the 1st lvl cleric spell Endure Heat/Endure Cold. Then there's the 2nd lvl cleric spell Resist Heat/Resist Cold. However, for the 3rd lvl "equivalent" there is onlyProtection from Fire with NO reversal form!!! Again, I consider that a logistical problem.
This 'recently' came up in a game. Priests can protect themselves from a Fireball and even a Lightning Bolt, but NOT Ice Storm or Cone of Cold! I now allow a reversal form of this spell, dubbing it Protection from Ice and Cold. I place it under both the Elemental and Protection spell spheres.
Um... IIRC, every edition of the game allows for players with spellcasting PCs to invent their own spells. Thus, the spells described in the rulebooks are really only examples of what is possible. All the rulebook needs to provide is Protection from Fire as an example and players can have their own spellcasters invent alternate forms of that very spell for use against every type of magical/elemental damage.
I remember, as a player, inventing alternates of the Fire Trap spell that would shock with lightning or freeze with cold rather than burn with fire. It really shouldn't be a problem to simply adjust the spell(s) in minor ways to affect different elemental damage types.
