Gradsul

Greetings!

Can anyone tell me where I might find a good map of the city of Gradsul?

hmm, Can't say that I've ever seen one in official product, nor fan-based.

Could always beg Yabu or Boslok to submit one Wink

There is a picture of Gradsul in Gary Holian's Keoland article. It would give you are starting place if you were inclined to create your own.

FTAA

Page 9: 583 CY, Gradsul repulsed Brotherhood invasion from the south after they had taken the Sea Princes. (Most likely with the help of specially bred races and olman peoples in their army)

Here, we can discern that Gradsul is at least partially fortified.

Page 64: The Sheldomar Valley is navigable from Niole Dra to Gradsul.

Page 69: An explorer, Tibararian Matreyus of Gradsul, suffered from some form of amnesia...

Page 77: Some blah blah about undead coming in from Sea and nearby villagers fleeing to Gradsul.

FTAR#3

This just lists Gradsul's hex coordinate as Q4: 117 on the Darlene Map.

TSB

Page 6: This entry confirms that the Brotherhood attacked Gradsul with Hepmonoland Warriors, as well as blockading the city's ships by occupying the mouth of the Sheldomar River.

This would seem to justify Gradsul as lying along the Sheldomar River and not on the coast of the Azure Sea.

Thanks for the info, keep it coming. I was thinking of using medieval Florence as a base (as I have some great mapping of it already), this is a large commercial centre along a large river. Florence has a citadel, many parks and the remains of a fortified outer wall. I somehow dont see Gradsul as a fully walled city, more a city that has grown in concentric stages, each stage limited by a larger wall until the city eventually just overflowed the last wall and became suburbs set outside of the defences.

The old concentric walls (or what remains of them) could serve as ward boundaries. The ruling Rhola family would have a large palace, as befits a family that has ruled in the same city for 300 years +, with gardens and parks around it.

I am assuming that Gradsul only covers the southern edge of the river? Or does it extend across the river into Ulek? It would seem odd for a city to only be on one bank, and if it does stretch over, is this part Keoish or Ulekish?

Quite a bit to be getting on with... Shocked

Oerth Journal #3 "Sorcerous Societies of the Flanaess" by Holian notes that there are at least 3 orders in Gradsul. The Silent Ones and the Natioinal Academy of Wizardry are rather weak there, but the guild hall of the Sea Mages is "truely fashaionable".
