Light Spell

In some rulings, a Light spell could blind an opponent in AD&D1. Is that general?

If cast upon an opponent's visual organs, Yes. In a way, I consider this a spell-casting 'called shot' and would likely grant the victim a bonus to save (+4 most likely). Bear in mind that some creatures have no true visual organs, or they are in odd places, or the effects of being blinded may not hinder them as much as most creatures. In the case of some creatures with other very potent senses of smell and hearing, blinding is more of an inconvenience than anything (dragons, for instance).
