Flann

Anyone know of a good source for Flann personal names (or anything else language related?).

The Rovers seem to use the "Made up Name" + "English Language Sobriquet", e.g., Kishwa Dogteeth, Durishi Great Hound (Rovers); Jaroo Ashstaff (the Druid in Hommlet). Is there anything more?

I did find this:

...which largely points out that EGG's idea of imaginative linguistics was spelling his relative's names backwards... Confused Laughing

I have a list of Flan names (male and female) and pronunciation key that I think I downloaded from the old LG Geoff website. I can't find the original files, though, just my typed list. You could always use EBoN.

-The Geoffite Flann seem to use pseudo-Welsh names (I'm looking for the NE Flaneass, specifically for the Pale/Gamboge). I know that in reality, that it's because the Flann weren't necessarily consistently designed. But in game terms, different dialects? Or maybe the Geoffite names are influenced by Keolandish or Common?

I like the Everchanging Book of Names using the Greyhawk chapters. It's pretty easy to set up.

-"Elyeh" or "Ehyeh"?

EDIT: "Ehyeh" means "I am."

-Is "Vlek" supposed to be a Flann (Coltens) term, or something else imported by the invaders?

I never interpreted Vlek as an invader, so I consider Vlek and Vlekstaad to be names in the NE Flan language.

I go into this in more detail in my article on linguistics in the Flanaess, and in an article I haven't finished yet on my campaign's history of the Flan. Someday soon...

-I was thinking that ole'Vlek got tossed out of somewhere or other. Turns out he was tossed out of the Rovers, before invading other places. So that makes sense.

Possibilities for Vlek Col Vlekzed (off the top of my head):

"Chieftain Col, Chieftain's son";
"Vlek, chieftain, Vlek's son".
