Quick rules question ... does a ring of protection stack with other less common items of protection introduced later on, such as a collar of protection, shirt of protection, ankelt of protection et cetera?
I would say no, as shenanigans would then ensue. Cloaks and rings do stack (with limitations), so I would extend that to one ring/other piece of jewelry + one cloak/other piece of clothing, at most. Besides, those later items were introduced to free up ring spots not for even more protection bonuses, but to allow for protection bonuses in conjunction with other types of ring effects, such as fire resistance, blinking, etc. Of course there is nothing stopping a DM from allowing those effects on non-ring items too, and just stick with keeping protection features set to rings and cloaks. _________________ - Moderator/Admin (in some areas)/Member -
I'd actually say that any two items work together, so long as they are different items. So a cloak and a robe could work, or a ring and an anklet, etc. Most of the other types are considerably more rare than the standard rings and cloaks, so it is unlikely to cause an issue in the game.
