According to the 3e Deities and Demigods, the deities of the D&D/Greyhawk pantheon (with the exception of Vecna, St. Cuthbert, and demigods) "were born with their divine power" (p. 12). So according to that source, Pelor was not an ascended mortal. I don't know if any other sources out there suggest otherwise.

I hope that helps...

Pelor...hmmm...I believe he be my sister's husband's cousin's nephew, twice removed, who married my brother's wife's sister's husband's brother's daughter. Ops, sorry, that woild be Pheler. Embarassed Nope never really knew this Pelor chap, however, I hear he's got a bit of a following.
Wink

Maybe one of them there Dragon issues makes reference... me thinks..issue 346 August 2006, something about a core belief in the man.

Cheers.

Ive always assumed that the greater gods (as listed from the original Greyhawk folios), have always been. Pelor is generally considered to be the creator of the sun. No sun, no life, no life, no one to ascend to godhood. He must of always been there...

You might find some interesting info in "Core Belief: Pelor" (Dragon Magazine 346). I don't remember if there is anything in their about his genesis as a deity, but it's worth a shot.
