Money Names in Greyhawk

OK, wracking my brain I cannot for the life of me remember the names of the monies of Greyhawk. I know the individual coin types (copper, silver, ect) each were given a more common name (i.e one was a Noble), but does anyone have this info?

I'm no Zilchus priest, but I think that the LGG has those written down for each different nation!

Which country do you want?

Page 51 of the LGG. Has the information you request. I will list it here for easy reference. This is assuming you mean Grey Hawk as in Free city of.

Plate (pp), orb (gp), lucky (ep), noble (sp), and common (cp).

I hope this helps.

There are also the iron "drab", brass "bit" and the bronze "zee", though those are from the Gord novels and not a part of the regular game's monetary system. You can find a chart with the conversion values HERE.

WOW, I haven't heard the terms "drab," "bit," and "zee" used in years! Nice find, Cebrion! My old Gord novels are collecting dust in a box in my shed...

IIRC, The Adventure Begins states that Nerof Gasgal reformed GH's currency system to where bits, drabs, & zees are now obsolete.

BOO! Laughing

I recommend using the system with the extra coins if you want your precious metals to be a bit more precious(particularly gold/platinum). Otherwise, use the standard system as most people do. Plus electrum, of course.

Hmm. Just the other day I threw some zees and a drab to a beggar I saw in the streets.

No wonder he looked so pissed! Shocked

Oh, well, that's what I get for spending so much time locked away in my tower, I suppose. Evil Grin

Noble folks of Grey Hawk hear our plea. Companionship is hard to come by for some of us. Donate a drab or two. Because even a 2 drab wench is better than a three lucky loner! Wink

Going by real world standards, steel is too hard to produce in scale. Zinc, aluminum and titanium are too hard to purify from ores, although zinc ores are probably used in bronze production. Aluminum, in alum is probably used as an astringent and as a fixative in dying wool. In fact, in my Sterich campaign, a mine the party just cleaned out turned out in a survey by the clan of a dwarf in the party to not have any rich veins of iron or other commonly held precious metals, but did have alunite in abundance. So now the dwarves are starting to mine it to ship out to Geoff and Keoland, which both are cloth producers according to the '83 Guide. This is all making the party's lord very rich and happy with them.

Most of the credit should go to the player of the dwarf who came up with the idea of having members of his clan come and check out the mine. He's a really good role-player.

Bronze is made of copper and tin, and cold iron can be stamped with a steel coin die, which work hardens the cold iron a bit due to the heat generated by the kinetic force of the stamping. All of the other metals, being softer, are of course more easily stamped.

As to the Gord money chart link I posted, I made it a while back, and uploaded it to the Downloads section because of this thread. The squeaky wheel got some grease this time. Wink
