    Knightly Orders

Posts made by Hadrada and Stewmell

Some notes on knighthoods and knightly orders, with notes on how to use them in a campaign. This includes eligibility requirements (levels) for the various ranks in a knightly order.

After that post, there follows a post giving a (potential) demographic breakdown (based on Real World research) of Furyondy, with an eye towards fighting forces. The goal is to determine just how big the armies and levies of Furyondy should be.

    Ket

A series of posts by the demogague NiteScreed detailing the gateway between the lands of the Bakluni and the lands of the Flanaess.

The land of Ket is detailed for use as the setting for a campaign, complete with notes on history, antagonists, and other important details. One such antagonist is Baba Yaga, the infamous witch (which some claim as inspiration for Gygax's Iggwilv).

Other sections in the Kettite posts deal with the use of Romance in a campaign, the Dead Suel (remnants of the long-dead Suel Imperium), Desert Fathers (ascetics who have discovered the secrets of immortality), druids and other cults with followings in and around Ket, and the Vistani adapted to Greyhawk.

While written prior to the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, there is a wealth of ideas to be drawn from in this writeup. While it may, at times, focus more on the magical and mystical than is usual for a Greyhawk writeup, it is definately worth reading.

    The Plague Years

Of all the heresies which have been brought up in the Online Community, few can compare to Aria13's Plague Years. It stands as one of the more unique and intriguing adaptations of Greyhawk.

This heresy begins in Celene. The elves develop their master plan to remake the flanaess in an image more pleasing to themselves...and then unleash it. This plan involves the use of a specialy tailored plague to wipe out or greatly reduce the populations of the humanoids and humans, which it does quite well.

The piece then goes on to describe how this plague transformed the Flanaess, opening up new possibilites for adventure. While it's basic plot may not be accepted by all, it could prove to be invaluable for any contemplating the effects of a widespread disease striking the lands of the flanaess.

    Greyhawk Renaissance

A glimpse by QSamantha into one possible future of the World of Greyhawk. A version where St. Cuthbert is trapped by Tharzidun, and where Vecna's malignance rots away at the heart of Nyrond. A vision in which evil is attacking the heart of the Flanaess.

But all is not lost in this vision...for scholarship and learning begin to flourish in the Flanaess like they never have before. The World of Greyhawk finds itself undergoing a rebirth, some small shades of which can be seen in the Oerth Journal articles on Dyvers.

Another truly unique vision for what can be done with the Flanaess to redeem it when it becomes too stuffy and stale.

    Heraldry in the Flanaess

Posts made by QSamantha, ExTSR, NiteScreed, and Aria13.

While the first couple of posts deal with the subject of heraldry, the others in this section are more of a continuation of the Knightly Orders section in the first part of the collection.

A wealth of information is given on the status symbols of knights, which can prove of use in rewarding a player in different manner or in fleshing out NPC's. Also included are a large selections of medals, broken down by nation, which can also see use as rewards and status symbols for PC's and NPC's alike.

Following the lengthy list of medals is an excellent post on Investitures, for use in playing out the ceremonies where a PC gains a noble title in order to make it memorable.
