    Best of Greyhawk, Volume 4

The Fourth Continent: An Overview of AnaKeri

One view of the lands beyond the Flanaess, by former Oerth Journal editor Tamerlain. Those familiar with his timeline in the first Oerth Journal may recognize the name of this fabled forgotten continent of Oerth.

A few hints are given of the colonization of part of Oerik by the peoples native to the lost fourth continent. These people, named the Kersi, survived the Twin Cataclysms and may be the blue-black skinned people mentioned in Greyhawk Adventures Hardcover.

Although few details are given of this new land in the post, there should be enough there for any DM to flesh out into a new setting to explore based on a mix of Polynesia, Africa, and Aboriginal Australia.

A History of the Bright Desert

    Posts by Psychlops and Tamerlain.

An attempt is made to reconcile the various accounts of the creation of the Bright Desert (presented in Vecna Lives! and Rary the Traitor). While these attempts do take some liberties with the material they were working with, they are compatable with the published accounts.

Included as a side-thought in one post is speculation on the Ring of Five being composed solely of Zagig, as well as Rary's true motivations for his defection from the Circle of Eight.

The Great Kingdom: Noble Politics in the Kingdom of Aerdy

Attempting to clean up the peerage mess created by Carl Sargent in the unpublished Ivid the Undying, QSamantha presents a new (and coherent) view of the political structure of Aerdy. Individual nobles are not named in this piece, only their titles and general allegances are, leaving it open to adaptation for use with Ivid the Undying.

In addition, the Landgraf (a kind of legislative body) is described, along with some hints of how to use it in a campaign.

The Great Kingdom: the Flanmi River, Thelly River, and Coach Routes of the Kingdom of Aerdy

One of the finer pieces on Old Aerdy to be written, this set of posts (also by QSamantha) covers the lifesblood of House Darmen...trade and travel. The major waterways are described, with notes on navigability, crossings, protections, and, most importantly, ports along the watery highways that cross Aerdy's heartlands. Later parts of this set of posts concentrate on river traffic, including (of course) piracy. Adventure ideas should easily arise out of that section.

The second portion of this section focuses on the land routes acorss Aerdy. It starts out by listing the various important routes and what kinds of normal traffic (beyond the required legions of peasants) can be encountered on the road. Of course, like the rivers section, bandits are discussed for no overland trip would be complete without at least one bandit attack.

At the very end of this section are a series of spells created for the Water Witches of the Flamni. Although they are not true witches, but rather elemental wizards, enough of a description is given of them to make them an interesting variant.

    St. Cuthbert, Heironeous, and Trithereon

A lengthy series of notes by Chaos28 about three of the major militant religions of the Flanaess, with some comments by Psychlops at the end. Although written in the From the Ashes era, the text is mostly background material, which can prove to be of use in any of Greyhawk's eras with little to no change.

Revising the Cleric: Suggestions for Oerthian Clerics

Ent1ty, using St. Cuthbert as an example, gives suggestions on making the priests of the various gods unique. Included is a Specialty Priest writeup of St. Cuthbert's followers. Although complete by itself, it should probabily have been included in the previous section, rather than having gotten it's own section.

(On the final page of this collection, it is noted that this is Best of Greyhawk #7, although they were all renamed when they were revised to have volume number be the same as the number of the folder from which they were compiled. The note on the final page is in error.)
