The Adventure Begins: At the north end of the West Market is the Hanging Tree, a very old roanwood of great size from which criminals were hung in the days before the New City walls were built. This is considered a prize spot from which to sell goods, and the price for a space around the tree is double the usual.
Side Note: The Hanged Man Inn got its start as the old jail for Greyhawk, in which prisoners doomed to be executed at the Hanging Tree north of the Low Market were kept.
Living Greyhawk Journal 2: East Market, which teems with sturdy wooden booths and stalls, is the domain of more reputable (than West Market) merchants. The most prized spot in the market is found at the north end, under the boughs of the Hanging Tree, an ancient roanwood once used to dispatch criminals.
