I was thinking the other day what Mystic-Scholar said about getting new players.Maybe have a index of local stores(from members,i have 3 gaming stores with-in 20 miles from me) that have open game night.I know at lest 2 of the stores have several GM's running campaign's.Just put the store's name, location, phone# and the day with open game night.
It's just a thought, beside's i came up with this idea when i was doing my "honey-do-list"

I spent my teen years in Baytown, TX, approximately 35 (or so) miles from Houston. But that was many years ago. Now that I've moved back to that area, I'll have to check on gaming stores and see what they have going on in the way of Game Night.
Not a bad idea, Baronzemo. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

For the Houston area, check the yahoo group CLAG_Houston (Clear Lake Area Gamers, http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/clag_houston). They were the most active when it came to setting up Living Greyhawk BK mods in the Houston area. I'm sure they can help you find games in the region.

Only one game store around here (of the three or four) have an open game night and all of the tables are already taken up by Living Forgotten Realms 4E players. So if you want to sit on the floor, there is room.

Ahh, Kansas City. Once drove for Butler Transport, know them? Too bad we didn't "meet" in those days. Could've gotten together for a game. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

Never heard of them, Butler Transportation, that is. Still, I have lived in this area for about ten years or so.
I came close to opening a hobby shop once, but then our investor fell through. Otherwise I could have hosted a night (or seven) myself.

Too bad about that Hobby Shop. I almost moved to Kansas City for work purposes, back then. It would have been great. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

As Cebrion and Saracenus have both stated, we need a little more open mindedness about it. I'm not thrilled by 4e myself, I understand that the Outer Planes are now the Astral Dominions located within the Astral Sea But I could be wrong.
Still, we only try to "restart" the American civil war with too much vitriolic rhetoric. I'm trying to tone it down a little myself. We've all but lost Saracenus and his considerable contributions to Canonfire! We risk losing others as well.
I would only suggest that "losing" members is not the way to revitalize the site. But that's just me.
And I promise you that 4e is not my "cup of tea." But some here like it and we would all do well to remember that.
I'm just saying. _________________ Mystic's web page: http://melkot.com/mysticscholar/index.html

I don't think you could get in trouble for listing the store name, phone number, location and open game nite. I would think of it as sort of free advertising, unless your bashing the store. So unless the host of this site has a problem....

In fact once the list gets long enough; perhaps it would be useful to "sticky the list" and have participants comment on the experience at the locations.
As for the senseless bashing of 4Ed. Grow up; a common complaint I've heard is WotC doesn't take are opinions seriouly but with comments like this why should they even bother to listen.

I have considered 4ed and some issues concern me (as all of the editions). My style of play revoles more around roleplay rather then combat and flashy complex game mechanics so I am disappointed with the direction of the edition. However I assume some points are valuable enough to mine. I do not denigrate those that enjoy the flash and slash of the edition although I am prepared to defend my own opinion and style of play.
Constructive and passionate debate is one issue; heck it is even fun . However the pointless "4ed is garbage and those that produce material for Wotc are idiots " mentality should stop or we will lose more talented contributors and then the board as well as GH will die .
I am not trying to stifle opinion but let us raise the level of debate above the playground and make it constructive for all concerned.
