Greyhawk Wars meets Axis & Allies

Don't know how many people have seen this yet, and haven't had a chance to try it myself (hell, never even played A&A), but figured some would enjoy it: http://andyspackman.wordpress.com/2008/10/03/triplea-greyhawk/

I've played the original Axis and Allies. Great game me and a couple of friends of mine use to play for hours once a week often with more then a reasonable amount of beers. My friend Joe was an expert he would easily win 90% of the time. However I was the only person who ever posed a challenge for him. I've seen him knock out players in as little as five-six turns. But every time it was me versus him in the end often several hours before victory sometimes all I could do was just defend and look for a weakness he rarely showed any. The few times I bested him which where not often was when he annexed Poland early allowing me to attack and liberate Poland then attack him directly. Otherwise he pretty much owned everyone he played against. Never played the online version though looks like it can be fun.

I'm a big A&A nut from way back. When I saw that game I was hooked for a couple weeks solid until I had abused the Flanaess every way imaginable. Happy

What would be a really interesting way of bringing Greyhawk Wars to the computer would be to use the format of Medieval II Total War. I have actually seen people alter the troops types and appearance dramatically. The example that sticks with me is using the Rome Total War game and redesigning the troops to fight the Napoleonic Wars (they have since released a Napoleonic version). Thus it would not be too hard to replace the Knight's Templar with the Knights of the Watch, etc. I think the big challenge would be reorganizing the campaign map (the low res map) to reflect the Flanaesses. But the system would actually fit in very well with Greyhawk Wars, and allow the tactical control that the original game lacked.
