    Nice job of DMing there, Mortellan! You provide a second ship and crew to bail the PCs out of trouble if you, the DM, feel they need and deserve it, but you make the crew a bunch of beautiful women that the players will hesitate to attempt to abuse as cannon fodder. They may even be more encouraged to jump into a fight in order to protect their 'consort' ship.

    One of the best tools of DM' ing. If you run out of time to prep something just have the Pc's enter a bar; instant scenario.

    Would be interesting to see a piece on the rise of the Drake's legacy lives on in the Flanaess through his growing religion and there is no dragon on Oerth who hasn't heard of Al Drak..... can see it fitting into a campaign with the rise of other hero's such as Daern (Oerdian Hero),Daoud ( Baklunish Hero),Johydee (Oerdian Hero), Mayaheine (rumored to be of another plane),and Murlynd of course...     DLG: Yeah I am long overdue for a good write up of Drake's history. I wouldn't want it to be too homebrewy though. Up till now my only mention of him in article form has been in my Ull series. The city of Kester is known for its gladiator fights and there is a certain champion who was once there named Al'Drak.

    I assume he was granted it by Zagig, being his adopted son. He may even have inherited Zagig's own title, Landgraf of the Selintan, after Zagig's mortal body died and the title ceased to carry any real power.

    The comments I agree with most are that if you're going to make a movie and call it a D&D movie, it should represent the game, not some alternate fantasy world with characters and plots that bear little to no resemblance to actual D&D game play.

    For some reason, I wasn't able to post on your blog, Mort, so here's my comment.

    I saw all those famous personages you mentioned, but didn't know what to say to them that wasn't corny and I didn't want to have to appologize for not buying their products, so just smiled and walked on by. Confused

    However, I had to speak to Bill Cavalier, the Dungeon Bastard (Tom Lommel) when I saw him standing in a hallway like a common convention attendee. He also introduced me to the beautiful woman there with him, Cindi Rice, who is his producer.

    I think a lot goes into the name of a god as well. Most players are looking for something that's easy enough to say and role play it seems. Now I thinking of a vengeance based cleric for Trithereon.

    If vengeance is a dish best served cold, then why is Trithereon always so heated? Laughing

    I was just about to post about this. Does this mean WoTC is... getting back in the AD&D business? This is funny because I remember thinking, and maybe even posting, a few months back that this is what they should do; start producing new product, specifically modules, for previous editions. Maybe this will become a trend. I'm sure some people will figure out a way to crap on it, but I don't see how it's a losing situation as long as they don't overextend themselves.

    I think as long as their retromod is attached to a classic it will work. If they try to make brand new AD&D mods their chances of success drop fast. I'm just happy that they're catering to all editions now instead of the next cool thing. This could be a good solution to the edition wars.

    Going back to the basics was Eric Mona mantra when he was pushing Greyhawk content for Dragon and Dungeon magazine.

    I agree new products will meet more scrutiny then reprints and expanded content from older editions. Though I would really enjoy some good not filler novels for the setting. It helped push DL sales and often works for building a successful setting.

    However, I also believe its ok to smash some pieces of china every once and a while. Sargent did so and made some of the best products ever for the Greyhawk setting.

    Mort, I'd like to see new 1e adventures, but I notice you didn't give a personal preference, but said you think their chances of success will drop. Why do you think so? Is the market too small, or are too many 1e players too entrenched in grognardism/been burned by WoTC too many times/however you want to view it, to give anything new a chance?

    Yeah WotC in my opinion have not created any new classics when it comes to modules. Dungeon magazine had stolen the mantle dating back to Paizo's early days but even their best stuff leaned heavily on revisiting the old classics in a way (Maure Castle, Age of Worms, Savage Tide). What was Wizards' best original module out of the 3e era? 4e? I can't say off the top of my head whereas 1e-2e is full of groundbreaking modules.

    I'm all for Greyhawk, my point is only that they have to anchor the new stuff to old for it to garner interest.
