I hope my question is not too silly, but I want to know.

Regarding Dungeon and Dragon magazines, which is best for a person that only plays D&D? I have never looked at either magazine in all my years of playing. But, browsing the WotC's D&D boards, especially Greywalk, I see interesting items regarding the magazines.

My understanding, from Paizo's Web site, is that Dragon is more specifically geared for D&D. And Dungeon seems to be consonant with other, more modern d20 games. Am I wrong in this appraisal. I don't want both, I already have so much to read.

So, for a person who soley plays D&D, do you recommend Dragon?

Well, it depends really.

Dragon is by far more useful overall to a D&D player, since all it covers is D&D3.5 edition material.

Dungeon/Polyhedron has one valuable feature to offer Greyhawk fans though, the Living Greyhawk Journal section, which appears sporadically (it's supposed to appear every other month, but that hasn't been the case so far).

If buying the magazines at a local shop is an option for you, and you play 3e/3.5e D&D, I'd recommend getting a subscription to Dragon and simply looking over Dungeon in the store each month, buying the ones with LGJ sections in them.

Okay, Rich - that's a good idea. And that's what I'll do. I was in Hastur Games, my local "gaming shop," and I flipped through them both, noticing just how stark the difference between them is.

I did not know the LGJ was in Dungeon, so that's important to me to know. Thanks for the help Happy

No problem.

Not being a big fan of 3e/3.5e D&D, I get little use out of Dragon anymore, aside from reading the comics (which I usually do in the store without buying the issue). If there's a really cool article that's "rules lite" or easily convertible to another system (I use a AD&D2e/Hackmaster hybrid myself) I'll pick up an issue now and then, but they aren't high on my list of must have products anymore.

The Living Greyhawk Journal is an excellent resource, even if, like me, you don't use 3e/3.5e D&D. Despite being written in those rules, the articles are chock full of fluffy details and ideas about the setting and any serious Greyhawk fan should check them out.
