    Peaks and Valleys

I know that this subject has been covered before, but I can't seem to find it.

I'm looking for info regarding the highest mountain peaks within the Flanaess. Where are they? What are their names? What lore (if any) is attached to these sites? Specifically, I'm looking for anything regarding the Lortmils.

The only one I've seen mentioned is the Horn of Iggwilv. How tall is it?

Additionally, I'd like to know about the valleys of the Flanaess. Not the Rift Canyon, nor the Sheldomar Valley, or the Valley of the Mage as there is plenty on these sites. Home brewed solutions are welcome.

Also, where in your campaign have you placed the largest Dwarven settlement within the Lortmils? What is it called?

    Please, and Thank You. Happy

Columbia Games had two interesting Dwarven supplements. Azadmere is the seat of the dwarven kingdom, which I placed in the Rakers. Its quite large, although only part of it is mapped (to give you a feel... DMs can then extend the city as the see fit).

Kiraz is an abandoned dwarven city (and former seat), which I placed in the Yatils. In my campaign, it was Yagrax that laid seige to Kiraz, rather then Lothrim (as described in the product), in his search for the Codex of the Infinite Planes. (See my Codex article) ;-)

There's no reason why you couldn't place either or both of those products in the Lortmils.

Hi Skech. While the information you seek has not been generally codified, the Oerth Journal records a pertinent article regarding the Lortmil Mountains. See Sobrach's article in OJ 2, at http://www.canonfire.com/cf/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=13.

The Lortmils have long interested me. While I've not accepted Sobrach's article entirely, I find it well imagined and written.

PS - The Lortmils were noted in the earlier sources (the WoG and FtA boxed sets, iirc) as being rather short in elevation. They are old mountains--almost hills. In contrast, the Rakers, Yatils, Crystalmists, etc. are relatively high mountains.

PPS - I recall an old bit of GH lore holding that the tallest mountain ranges on Oerik were not in the Flanaess but instead far to the west, somewhere in the all-but-mythical lands that are west of Civilized Bakluna.

Within the Flanaess it's a toss up between the Griff/Raker range (wherein the Fellowship of the Eternal Flute spent an unpleasent four months at altitude IMC) and the Crystalmists as I recall, but yeah - on Oerik, if not Oerth as a whole, the highest ranges are the ones waaay over west near the Celestial Empire (according to The Adventure Begins, IIRC).
