Zavoda index

I could use a copy of Jason Zavoda's GH index. Could someone email me a copy, or give me a link?

Thanks!
Nell.

harvestersheroes.com has it. You'll probably have to register, but it's in the "downloads" section.

I visited the site to check, and it appears they have everything up and running now. I had no problems.

If that doesn't work, PM me your email addy and I'll send you a copy.

As bubba said you need to register with the site first though.

Okay, then: ANYBODY can PM me with an email addy and I'll send you a copy. It's not a copyrighted product, so nobody has to worry about piracy. Every 'hawker should have a copy of Zavoda's index.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the index for?

The index lists every occurrence of every proper noun (place, NPC, etc.) in virtually every Greyhawk-related product ever printed up to 2003. It's indispensible if you're trying to find all the information on a given subject or if you're trying to keep things in line with published canon.

Here's an example. I search the document for the name "Artur Jakartai" and it brings me to the following text:

Artur Jakartai (Count)[F11][Pa16][3ePal17][NPC]
COG:FFF - 73,74
FTAC - 11,12
FTAR#13
LGG - 45,46,47
WGM1 - 2,6,7,10,19,22,24,25,32
WGR4 - 11,17,20,21,22,26,36,38,39
WGR5 - 34
WGR6 - 13,62,63

At the beginning of the document is a list of sources and their abbreviations. The first abbeviation under the Artur Jakartai entry, "COG:FFF" stands for "City of Greyhawk: Folks, Feuds and Factions". You get the idea...

Often referred to as the "Zavodadex" after the author Jason Zavoda, it is actually entitled "Encyclopedia Greyhawkania Index". This probably causes some occasional confusion. The "EGI" is an imminently useful resource for hunting down information on most anything Greyhawk. It might possibly not be 100% complete, but so far as I know there is nothing else around that comes close to its level of completeness, and it is probably one of the most appreciated fan-made documents out there.

All hail Jason! Evil Grin

Bubbagump emailed me a copy. An awesome work! Happy Cool

Bubbagump, you said "up to 2003." Do either of you guys know if Jason is continuing this pursuit, or can we consider this his end product? Confused

Just asking! Happy

As far as I know, Jason quit updating the index in 2003.

Damn! Evil Grin

That is great stuff. I simply don't have enough Greyhawk material to even attempt an update of that work. Sad

Perhaps in the future. Wink

One can only hope! Happy

When Harvester's Heroes became effectively closed to all except already-existing members, Jason gave me the thumbs up to host his index on my website. You can find it here as the top item on the page...

All Greyhawk fans should have unrestricted access to material like this.

I believe people can still join Harvester's Heroes, but they have to do so by e-mailing their user name and desired password to the admin. Kind of a hassle, but I think you can still join this way.

Nice to know that the file is available in more than one place though. A little bit of redundancy is never a bad thing.

Thanks, Maldin. I knew somebody had said they were hosting the index, but I couldn't remember who. I guess I should have thought about checking the chat logs, eh?

Then why not have it hosted here on Canonfire, too?

31 August 2003 is the last version of Jason's index that I own; when he and I spoke at the North TX RPG Con, he said he has no plans to return to GH indexing at the moment but if products come out that interest him, perhaps he could be persuaded to pick up the pen again :D Of the RPG/GH boards I'm on, Jason's most active on the Acaeum, where he's a regular.

I haven't compared the 2003 file version to the other "index" update Jason did, published by Erik Mona in LGJ #11 (in Dragon 296, June 2002):

LIVING GREYHAWK Gazetteer Index
By Jason Zavoda
An encyclopaedic index for the LIVING GREYHAWK Gazetteer.

I'm not sure if all of that content's in the 2003 version of the index or not??

I'm not going to speak for Jason and his reasons, but it was his decision several years ago to not host his work on CF, and that is his right. Besides, CF is not the only place on the internet to find cool Greyhawk material (nor should it be). Smile
