Plane Below Excerpt: Temple of Elemental Evil

It looks like the ToEE will be making it's first 4e appearance in Plane Below: Secrets of the Elemental Chaos. Here's a link to the excerpt. We won't have a big dungeon yet - it's more of an overview of what the Temple and the Cult of the Elder Elemental Eye is for 4e.

I like the references to older incarnations to the ToEE. For example, in one of the Lore checks it says "The Cult of Elemental Evil arose multiple times, and the temple was destroyed and rebuilt at least twice." A few names are dropped - Zuggtmoy (of course), Falrinth, Smigmal, etc. I especially like Falrinth's name drop: "Falrinth, a male human wizard, is an ancient fanatic who has already survived two separate offensives against the temple..."

    After reading this passage:

    Quote:
The Temple of Elemental Evil is an enormous stone edifice with hideous carvings and demonic gargoyles, constructed and reconstructed in varying styles over the years. The temple contains multiple passageways to the Abyss and the Elemental Chaos, as well several pockets of the Plane Below made manifest in the world.

I got the idea of publishing this massive, sprawling, plane-spanning dungeon as a series of short adventures in Dungeon. This would be not unlike what they're doing with the current Chaos Scar series.

So it's not impossible that we may see some more Greyhawk stuff cropping up even if only obliquely.

The 4E Village of Hommlet was available as part of the DM Rewards program(perhaps it still is). It gives only a skeletal overview of Hommlet, but updates the Moathouse completely.
