City of [insert something here]

I like the subtitles given to cities of Greyhawk. I think it adds a bit of colour to them and I found myself wondering what some of the subtitles would be for the ones I dont know.

My favourite city in Greyhawk is Irongate and I was pretty excited when I learnt there was going to be an article about it in Dragon Magazine (RIP). Loved the article, though it was too short by far, but it gave us Irongate - City of Stairs, which I was luke warm on to begin with but now really like.

So I was wondering if you all could add more to the list, with perhaps a reference to the source (or failing that, just indicate if it was your suggestion).

Irongate - City of Stairs (Drgn Mag Issue ??)
Zelradton - City of Steel (Oerth Journal article)
Kalstrand - City of Gold (OJ article)
Hardby - City of the Scorned (??)

Love to know what other ones people know of or would like to suggest?

Picking at low-hanging fruit, the obvious addition is Dorakaa, "City of Skulls" (WGR6).

And another fairly well-publicised one:

Dyvers - City of Sails (LG, I think)

I'm sure there's more. Will come back to this.

Remembered another couple:

Istivin - City of Shadows (Dungeon 117)
Exag - City of Clay (Dungeon 145)
Scuttlecove - City of Chaos (Dungeon 146 - depends whether you view this as part of the setting or not)

Interesting topic that has got me thinking. Thanks Phalastar.

"City of [insert something here]" - didn't I see that one in BoVD? ;)

I often look to Poe, when thinking of the Sinking Isle and thus:

If Irongate is your favorite city and you haven't checked it out yet, make sure to look at Maldin's Irongate Project - http://melkot.com/locations/irongate/ig-city.html

Greyhawk: City of Hawks (title of a Gord novel)
Stoink: The Wasp Nest (title of an unpublished sourcebook by Gary Gygax; this doesn't really fit the "city of" format, but it's still the city's nickname - maybe City of Wasps?)
City of the Gods (proper name unknown)
City of Brass (given various proper names unofficially; in Gygax's Epic of Ærth, its proper name is Al Bramkhyia)
Xuxulieto: The Forbidden City (revealed in The Scarlet Brotherhood)

It's not technically Greyhawk, but you can get there from here:

Moil, the City that Waits.

I have a feeling that Rel Astra should be the City of the Stars, but I can't say I've seen it in print.

Monmurg, Niole Dra, Rel Mord, Enstad...these all deserve some good nicknames.

Ooo, good catch Chevalier. It's literally, in Old Oeridian, "City of the Heavens."

City of Howls; City of Towers; City of Grief; City of Giants

Critwall - City of Shields?
Rel Mord?
Winterhsiven - City of the One True Faith??
Niole Dra?
Gradsul?
Hersuel Ishar - City of the Suel?
Enstad - City of Fey
Chendl - City of Canals?

I'd go for Chathold (or what's left of it) as City of Grief.

I like City of Knights but am torn between Admundfort, Chendl and Hookhill.

City of Intrigue is another interesting one but not sure which city I'd give this too. Somewhere in the Great Kingdom, I suspect but not sure where.

I can't seem to find any canon City nicknames for Baklunish places. I thought if any place would have em it would be Living GH Journal #5 but no such luck. Now you know me, I can't resist representing my own CF articles. So...

Kester, City of Pits

Came across a couple more while reading through the Savage Tide campaign:

Golismorga = City of Madness (Dungeon Magazine #154?);
Mantru = City of Broken Idols (Dungeon Magazine #155?).
