I like the idea of having henchmen/hirelings continue the campaign with The Moathouse/ToEE, but I have a couple of reservations.
First, instead of going through GDQ with higher-level PCs, then having the henchmen/hirelings take on ToEE followed by Slavers, why not have the higher-level party do the Slavers modules, then have the henchmen/hirelings do ToEE and follow it right into GDQ?
ToEE can take a party all the way to 10th level if they clean out the temple and explore all of the elemental nodes. Even if they are only 8th level, they are too high to begin the Slavers modules. But, they are just right to begin GDQ.
The second issue I have with this idea is that newbie players are horrible at playing high-level PCs. They simply aren't familiar with the way the game works, the skills their PCs possess, how to work as an efficient team with the other PCs, etc. New players really need to begin play at 1st level.
I know that doesn't, necessarily, apply to all new players. But, in my experience, it applies to at least 90% of them.
So, I would suggest that this order may work for experienced players, but not for players new to the game.
