Burning Cliffs

Hey all - apologies if this has been posted previously; I am not much up on the forums the last few years. I just ran across an Atlas Obscura article on the Smoking Hills of Canada - and I would guess this place is the inspiration for the Burning Cliffs. At any rate the photos of the hills provide a good visual reference for any campaign that might visit the Greyhawk location.

Edit: Hey, the link worked!

Great find! I wonder what other real world sites could approximate places in the Flanaess... This might be a fun weekend activity!

Very cool, thanks for the pointer!

Now to ponder the real (non-geological) reason that the cliffs are aflame....

Allan.

Probably just a residual effect of the test run for the Rain of Colorless Fire that just so happened to be used on Earth and killed off the dinosaurs.

Pretty cool natural feature. Tons of really interesting natural sites all over the world that can serve as inspriation.

I think the portal to the City of Brass that Greyhawk Adventures placed in the region might have something to do with it.

My theory is that using the Codex of the Infinite Planes, Tzunk opened a portal there when he was invading the City of Brass, and the terrain around it never stopped burning.
