    Artwork in the Flanaess

gvdammerung has posted several articles of late referring to literature in Greyhawk (all good by the way, and, more importantly, useful).

I was wondering about the fine arts of the Flanaess. What does a portrait painter get paid? A sculpter? I know there are no fixed answers, but a general rule of thumb would be nice (figure costs for materials, reputation, skill, time, demand, economic environment, and a patron).

There are a lot of "equipment guides" for d20 out, but I haven't seen anything that answers, "How much gold is this piece of artwork worth"? How do you price the art "treasures" found in your games?

How much artistry is required when making "masterwork" items? At what DC of skill is required for the creator to be considered a "master"?

Greyhawk specific question: are their any canon/known artists? Is there a GH equivalent to Michaelangelo or DiVinci? You'd think their must be. What about art academies or court artists/historians?

    Thanks in advance.

This topic fascinates me. I have absolutely no artistic talent Sad but I love art. Smile

I would love to see someone do something with this topic. I would love to sometime take a crack at it myself.

IMC, we have never gotten into great detail on art but have always generalized. I'd love to be able to add a layer of artistic detail to a campaign.

    Very cool thoughts! Happy

    Artists

If you go into the GT Archives there are a couple discussions, RE artists of the Flanaess. Plug "Artists of the Flanaess" in and you should get a few posts. I contributed a few artists to the discussion, one of which I had written up in a prior PostFest.

A good starting place might be to check the modules and see what fine art is provided as treasure. I bet there is some statuary.
