Blood & Darkness

Being recovered somewhat more fully from a miserable Gencon experience, I cracked open a copy of the Chainmail supplement, Blood & Darkness, that I purchased at the Con for the princely sum of $1 American. Of course, the Chainmail setting is ostensibly set in the far north eastern portion of the Dragon Annual Map. My purchase was "rewarded," by finding that Blood & Darkness more fully describes the origins of the Gith race (Githyanki & Githzerai) on Oerth, particularly in the underground city of Zarum in the far west of Oerik. Previously, I believed this Gith reference to be confined to the pages of Dragon magazine. Finding it now "in print" in a more substantial fashion, I feel the itch to call it "canon." However, Blood & Darkness in no way resolves the many conflicts surrounding a supposed Oerthly origin of the Gith race. There remain inconsistencies with the Gith as described in the Incursion issues of Dragon and Dungeon, as well as time/date references that suggest the Gith originated on Oerth within recorded history, as well as the need for an Illithid "conquest" of Oerth, if it is, in fact, home to the Gith. Nonetheless, Blood & Darkness does seem to "solidify" the claim of Oerth as Gith homeworld advanced in the pages of Dragon Magazine. _________________ GVD
