Redistributing retired LGH modules ?

Hi folks.

Recent discussion on GreyTalk about the IP of LGH modules has prompted some of us to email an inquiry to the LGH Circle regarding the possibility of redistributing retired LGH modules in the future.

Please review the draft email below and inform me if you would like to sign-onto the email. I'd like to send it by the end of today (Thursday Nov. 17) but may wait until tomorrow if discussion here warrants it.

DRAFT 4

Dear Living Greyhawk Circle:

Recent online discussions about "retired" LGH modules prompted us to inquire about the possibility of redistributing retired LGH modules in the future.

We understand that the Year 1 and 2 LGH modules may be constrained by contracts between Wizards of the Coast and the modules' authors, which reportedly require additional compensation to the individual authors in order for Wizards to redistribute those modules.

We are thus focused on seeing how we might help change the future policy so that GH fans and Wizards customers may enjoy Year 3+ LGH modules after they retire.

Depending on your advice we contemplate contacting individual authors to discuss the idea of redistribution and organizing a committee to select certain LGH modules for redistribution so that the great creative material produced via the LGH campaign is not lost.

Thank you for your dedication to GH and for administrating the LGH campaign.

Very truly yours,

We actually have no say on this issue. It's completely a WotC/RPGA decision about distribution of retired LG materials. So you should skip us and email Ian Richards and Stephen Radney-MacFarland directly.

Yup count me in.

It would also be really cool if we could have an official timeline on what happened during years 1 & 2 if we aren't going to be able to get ahold of any of the mods!

I would certainly be ok with an idea of LG modules being made publicly available after they retire from circulation. Still, RPGA has had a established policy on this and I doubt this petition will achieve anything.

Nonetheless, you can sign me up.

Hi Steven and Paul,

Thank you for the quick reply and for suggesting whom interested fans should contact. I couldn't find contact emails for Mr. Richards or Mr. Radney-MacFarland. The closest I got was the general RPGA contact webpage. See http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpga/hq/contact.

Could either of you please suggest a good email or two? Feel free to email me directly mtizoc at canonfire dot com.

I see that Don has already posted on this idea on the LGH message board (as ClockworkGolem). See http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=536579, and limited responses have been posted though none by the principals addressed.

My plan was to first contact the LGH Circle and then report back to the base of interested people, i.e., those who "signed" the email. From there we would move to the next level.

Given Steven and Paul's response, however, it seems to me that interested GH fans should gather a larger number of signatures before contacting Mr. Richards or Mr. Radney-MacFarland. Ideally, we will gain the support of the LGH Circle and LGH Triads before moving "up."

However, some people have suggested that it might not be appropriate for them to be part of the petitioning group. Please share your ideas on that point.

Finally, PaulN6, please email me your name and preferred email address at mtizoc at canonfire dot com.

Peace!

Count me in as well...
I am also a definite fan of the timeline idea, if only as a fall-back.

Folks,

Since last posting on this subject on Canonfire!, I've corresponded with a group of GH fans who indicated interest in this project. One of us, Pierre Couture, has programmed an online petition to collect people's electronic signatures to the letter, which we originally directed to the RPGA Living Greyhawk Circle. It is available at http://alternat.celeonet.fr/lg/.

If you are interested, please "sign" the document and note your specific affiliation with the LGH campaign. I and others are beginning to promote the online petition at various GH online fora today. We will close the petition in two weeks--on Sunday 11 December 2005, when we will then contact the LGH Circle and RPGA campaign coordinators and present the signed petition and hopefully move to a different phase in this endeavor.
