The "official" 2008-2009 Greyhawk Webcomic thread!

The old thread was getting a bit long, so I closed it and created this new one to discuss Mortellan's WoG comics:

A sticky! Many thanks on the split ratlord. This works great. Now if I could just find where I misplaced this week's comic... Shocked

Well that was kinda a lame way to break the thread in Mort. Just for that I think we should start a poll on what characters the 2008 comics will include. Remember, with great power comes great responsibility. Happy

A poll for characters in 2008? Sure Eileen, sounds fun. Got any nominations?

Well I would like to see some Circle of the Eight members, also maybe center some things around Greyhawk City including Nerof Gasgol. Perhaps you could find time to include some monsters such as the Giants in the western Flanaess. Perhaps we could really get the dirt on what happened between Rary, Mordenkainen, and Robilar. I would also love to see Gygax if it is possible.

Good ideas, bad ideas, or Meh ideas?

The Co8 would be fun, Robilar and Mordy do have a precedent in my comic so they could return. Monsters, Giants etc are always possible. Or do you mean the deities of said monsters? Greyhawk City does seem like a natural area to cover, I don't like to get too involved in mortal affairs unless it involves deities/immortals of some caliber so Nerof and co. would need an angle for me to use them. As for Gygax, well, it's always been my intention that he is Zagyg. I base his likeness off of the Gygax from Futurama (w/o glasses in my case).

At the time I was thinking monsters per se, but then I'm not the one laboring either. As for deities, I enjoy Ehlonna, Gruumish, Istus, Incabulos, Erythnul, Nerull, and Wee Jas quite a bit. Perhaps you have used these individuals and I am not aware of it. It isn't deity related but I do think it would be neat if you found a way to incoporate some of the classic Greyhawk modules. Regardless, your the one doing the work for our entertainment so we are happy to read whatever comes to mind.

    Happy Hey...

Maybe Mort could do a monthly comic skit on us regulars (and semi-regulars...like me, mainly because of the new time zone I live in) to Greytalk and canonfire, maybe a cyber convention were we all meet and debate about debates and give opinions on opinions Wink Happy

    ....just a thought, Happy

That's quite doable. I'm overdue for a relic comic.

Ah yes, good find! I have sprinkled artifact comics throughout my run, but that may be the earliest one. Let's see this one had (you may have to go back and look):

    Cup of Al Akbar
    Deck of Many Things
    Crystal of the Ebon Flame
    Ring of Gaxx
    Talisman of Al Akbar
    Two Orbs of Dragonkind
    an Artifact of Evil

Here are other artifact ones I could find.

Wow, Mike. Your tribute to Mr. Gygax in this week's WoG comic made my eyes well up with tears. It is the best of the online memoriums I've seen. Perfect.

Your new avatar is pretty good too.

Stephen Colbert made a tribute too. Too bad the audience didn't understand.

Ragr: Thanks! That took some doing. I would've liked to have something closer sounding to H.A.L. but then it would confuse who Fraz is. I think it worked out.

Wolfsire: Yeah the voice is eerily monotone. Whats funny about Fraz is he is really a giant-gorilla-looking demon. Seeing him in that form would make you think of anything but HAL's voice. :P

    Ha, ha.

Now that you have quite a body of cultist work, I decided to go back and read them all in order...thanks to your nifty "previous" and "next" links!

Seems like the "next" link in the penultimate one, from march, is not enabled though.

Thanks for all you do, Mort!

Has to be the Cultists ~ classic comedy duo! But they all have their moments. I also like Hextor, strangely (may Corellon Larethian forgive me!), but I'll put that down to your fine depiction! Happy

Odd. Anyway, I was asking permissing to use some crops of your comix images as avatars on ScottG play by post. If you want to answer my pm or here, either would be fine.

Yeah he's a card. I need more ideas for that recurring show though. If anyone has some Top 10 ideas or maybe guests/topics they'd like to see covered by Grazzt, drop me a PM.

BTW, I am cooking up a contest involving the cultists. Keep you eyes on their episodes.

All the faces of Olidammara. You have about a dozen. I'm playing a cleric of the Laughing Rouge and using the original Dragon pic right now. All the faces you have will give me more ability to communicate.

The TOEE he advertised here fell though, but we are now playing in Yggsburgh/Castle Zaggy. Just had our first encounter. The cavalier charged an ogre and died. Gotta go back to town and throw a wake. Cant have tears for the dead.

I recall a few Dragon articles for mundane magic items even in first edition.

Well sure, but the emphasis was more on player ability to create new items. 1E was downright discouraging and it progressively got easier from there IMO.

i know, even though i never played 3e, I got it. just adding 2 bits. Of all the things I regret about not learning 3e, it was the magic creation system. Spending exp, blahhh, but a real system, yeah!

For my money 2E was the best system, mixing crunch and fluff that is.

That one makes me think of the long running joke in the old Phill Foglio Dragon cartoon. Sex in D&D.

I don't remember then name of it thought. But I do find it amusing that Phil would go on later to do a porn comic with a lot of fantasy features to it.

Interesting. I hadn't seen this Dragon. Some of the references are obvious, others vaguely familiar, others I don't know. I'll do the ones I can. Anyone want to help with the others?
