    Pholtus and Keoland

A question for the devotees of Keoland.

My current campaign in northern Furyondy seems to be heading to a very sticky end in the clutches of Xenvelen, and I was thinking of setting a new campaign in southern Keoland, and a couple of players were thinking of following Pholtus of the Blinding Light. Now my research of Keoland seems to indicate that clerics of "Follow my god, or prepare to burnt at the the stake" approach might just encounter some resistance from the general populace, not to mention the established faiths and nobility.

So my question is, would a cleric of Pholtus survive at all? And what possible reason might there be for them to be in Keoland in the first place?

And as a supplimental question, a party of seven could be made up of what sort of mix of characters with a suitably Keolandish feel?

Gary Holian's Keoland publications have taken the position that clerics have little power in Keoland and that clerics (and other spell-casters) who try to wield political power beyond moral persuasion are greatly distrusted.

The LG Keoland website used to have a meta-org specifically for clerical and other healers which went into some detail on the role of clerics in Keoish society. I believe they mentioned Pholtus but am not sure.

I imagine they might survive, but probably be given the cold shoulder or have a some really fabulous things thrown at them when they started falling out in a religious fervor in a public place like a fire and brimstone Baptist minister at a southern revival. I read somewhere, probably in the goodies here at CF, that wizards were distruted in Keoland, but I can't recall if priests were mentioned.

I haven't done much research on Keoland as far as religions to be able to give a studied answer, but I'm guessing by your fear of having Pholtus clerics in Keoland, they have their established religions and aren't too keen on having new ones popping up? That in itself could be the reason for clerics of Pholtus moving around. The religion could be trying to gain an acceptance by the Keoish people. After all, any religion is always looking for newly converted tithe..I mean, followers. Wink
