While I know that it's been recently mentioned in another thread, I wanted to make a point of giving a direct link, and spreading the word (as it were) to anyone who may've missed that thread, or not scrolled down to see the mention of the auction.
Between November 14 and 21 of 2012, Paul Stormberg of “The Collector’s Trove” will auction DARLENE’s classic 1980′s artwork including: originals of published work from “The Dragon Anthology,” “Rahasia,” the first RPGA module (published 1981), “The Amber Sword of World’s End,” a TSR one-on-one book (published in 1986) as well as a full-color painting for the 1981 Days of the Dragon Calendar.
DARLENE will also be selling her ARTIST’S COPIES of most of her PUBLISHED WORK including, but not limited to: A still-shrinkwrapped B1 Module, early issues of The Dragon and the early Dragon Anthologies, 2 Greyhawk Maps, a One-On-One Book, “The Amber Sword of World’s End” (1986), Gen Con Convention Booklets, DARLENE’s samples of the Monster Cards, Days of the Dragon Calendars, plus much more!"
Just below there is a thumbnail of the World of Greyhawk Folio. Obviously, those are the two original editions of the Flanaess that she did.
I can't tell you how far I would go to be able to bid on these. But, I'm certain that there'll be gryhawk fans (like Erik mona, Lisa Stevens, et al.) that could afford to make much better bids than I could. I'll be interested to see if they publish who puchases them, or if we'll hear through other gaming media. I, for one, will be watching that auction during the middle of next month with very great interest, and anticipation ... perhaps even a bit of trepidation!

Ummm--I wouldn't refer to those as "original" maps--it seems she's selling her "artist's copies" of the 1980 folio maps, which I assume are no different than the ones that were sold to everyone else upon release.
Rob ... that's a very good point. While it does say "originals", grammatically, there's two lists that are being referred to ... one is originals of published work, and the other is artist's copies of published work. ... I guess I (and others whom have been discussing it in GreyTalk and elsewhere) hadn't really noticed the distinction. I'd been presuming was that it meant the original copy of the artwork that was made by the artist herself. ... but, you are certainly right, it may mean the copy of the published work that was given to the artist herself.
It is one of the first release Darlene Maps from EGG collection.... unfortunately tooo many gp for this dungeon dweller....
Finished up at $960..... things like this (and other things ie original Easley, Caldwell, Elmore paintings) often make me wonder where they end up and If these collectors are still gaming, or just have a passion for that artform, etc. While my collection is extensive, it is not "unique" as far as rare items.
[edit] Although the last year on here has me considering on negotiations with the next "crop" of artisans.. ie Anna, Icarus, and others... I can see their talents rising to that of those that set the bar so many years ago.

I think collectors vary in their interests as much as regular gamers do: some are only collectors now and don't game at all, some game now and again or with their children, and others actively play regularly. _________________ Allan Grohe (grodog@gmail.com)
