    The Beauty of Niole Dra

Niole Dra is meant to be one of the most beautiful cities on the Oerth, but just what does it look like? I have read various references to the city that seem to hint at wide streets, graciful domes and minarets, watered gardens and green spaces? To me this sounds very much like classical Rome with its public buildings and parks, infact I get a very italian sense of architecture with wide plazas and a sense of refinement.

I also assume that like any other city Niole Dra has its fair share of slums and troubled areas.

Can anyone point me in the direction of anymore details of this city?

With that description it isn't Rome. Byzantium would be closer but what it really sounds like Muslim Spain. Fortunately, a lot of their architecture survives in Southern Spain. That might help.

    Slums in Niole Dra?

Not if the city government doesn't allow them. Of course what that is likely to create is a shanty town just outside the limits of the city government's authority/sphere of interest.
More likely, the poorer districts are located well away from the richer residential and administrative districts. Its possible that while main thoroughfares are kept resonably maintained, the back alleys and lots are allowed to fester, giving the illusion of cleanliness and beauty in these areas.

    Niole Dra

There is a map on the WOTC site, a free download, of a Canal City. I took this and used it as the basis for a very enjoyable version of the city. It is certainly unusual, but the canals and the walls worked well in my rendition. I used Istanbul as the basis for much of the architecture. All of my shanties were either in a small cluster around the gates, or across the river. The domestic help takes a ferry everyday.

The canals, in my game, gave it a lazy air, a great capital, so great it was not in a hurry and could use water taxis.
